Format punctuation
You can automatically convert quotation marks to curly quotation marks and convert double hyphens (--) to dashes (—) in the Substitutions window.
Use smart dashes
Choose Edit > Substitutions > Show Substitutions (from the Edit menu at the top of your screen).
In the Substitutions window, select the Smart Dashes checkbox.
Click a button to replace all occurrences of dashes in the presentation, or just in the selected text.
Choose a quotation mark style
You can specify a quotation mark style for single and double quotation marks in your presentation. To apply formatting to existing text, select the text first.
Choose Edit > Substitutions > Show Substitutions (from the Edit menu at the top of your screen).
In the Substitutions window, select the Smart Quotes checkbox.
Click each pop-up menu and choose a quotation mark style.
Click a button to replace all occurrences of quotation marks in the presentation, or just in the selected text.
You can turn off automatic formatting, but existing formatting doesn’t change. To change existing formatting, select text that contains the formatting you want to change, then click one of the replacement buttons.
